scope for ruger 10-22

Why is adding a scope to your Ruger 10/22 is an essential modification?

One of the best things about the Ruger 10/22 is the fact that it is so readily modifiable so that any gunner can choose the best setup to suit his or her needs. But you may be surprised to learn that a lot of new gunners, or those new to the Ruger 10/22, don’t even know about this. Shocking, I know, but everyone has to start somewhere, right? That being the case, I would like to make the argument that the first modification you should make to your Ruger 10/22 is adding the perfect scope for your needs.

The basic things you need to know about scopes for a Ruger 10/22

Let’s take a moment to focus on an essential part of the anatomy of the Ruger 10/22: the scope base. It comes with one straight from the factory, and for basic needs, this may be all you need to get the utility you’re after. However, the more advanced or specific your needs are, the more you’re going to want to take a serious look at aftermarket bases to buy the best scope for Ruger 10/22 for your needs.

Aftermarket Ruger 10/22 scope bases tend to have added utility and better complement more advanced scopes for Ruger 10/22s. For instance, one benefit of aftermarket bases is that there are multi-slot options as well as options that have a very low profile for improved ergonomics and line of sight.

Then there is the scope itself. For the purposes of this short informational piece, we’re going to assume you primarily use your firearm for hunting, and that the scope you choose for your Ruger 10/22 is going to be a scope that is optimized for that purpose.

So, what are features that a good hunting scope has? Let’s take a look at some:

  • Magnification: Ideally, a good hunting scope for a Ruger 10/22 is going to have decent magnification. Even if you don’t think you’ll need it, you do. Don’t let hubris getting in the way of optimizing your shooting performance.
  • A good reticle: People may have particular preferences for reticles, but as far as hunting goes, you can’t really go wrong with a mil-dot reticle.
  • A quality laser: This will further accurize your equipment and many find they end up getting a lot of use out of lasers, even when they don’t think so, initially.
  • Anti-reflective lens: I can’t stress this enough. The lens is one of the most basic components of what makes a good Ruger 10/22 scope for hunting, and a bad lens will really ruin all the other great features, so be sure to pay attention to lens quality.
  • Easy adjustments: This is especially important when shooting in bad conditions or from a great range.

Once you understand what makes a good scope for the Ruger 10/22, finding one isn’t so difficult. It’s an essential modification because it’s the ultimate way to accurize your firearm, which is why every hunter should consider investing in a good scope.

Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Review of the Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner

I had hated my vacuum for tile floors since the day I got it as a wedding gift almost 6 years ago. It never picked up any dog hair, and in fact, picked up very little of anything else. It weighed a ton. It sounded like a freight train. It even smelled weird when it was on. I wanted a new one. After weeks of contemplation and research I settled on what seemed like an unlikely choice: The Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless Upright.

Is the Hoover Elite Rewind the Best Vacuum for Tile Floors?

I say this was an unlikely choice because it was over $100 less than what my price range included. I ordered it from Amazon with free shipping and my total before tax was just $86.00. It seemed that an $86.00 vacuum cleaner for tile floors might be too good to be true. After using my new machine for a few days, however, I must say I am extremely happy with my choice.

The 12 amps of power are evident in this vacuum cleaner’s suction capabilities. It pulled up tons of dog hair from my carpet and rugs – even hair that I couldn’t see with my eyes. After just a quick sweep of my living room rug, I could see a huge amount of dust and hair in the bagless canister. I had just cleaned that area with my old vacuum a few days ago. After vacuuming my upstairs tile floors, there were stuff my old vacuum couldn’t pick up seen in the canister. The tile floors were installed 3 years ago, however this machine picked up loose pieces.

I had been torn between whether or not to choose a bagless option for my new vacuum cleaner. I am very happy with the Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless for this reason. There is an automatic release for the canister to empty it, so you don’t end up all dusty after each cleaning. The vacuum cleaner also features a lifetime HEPA filter that simply has to be brushed clean every now and then. If I was getting a bagless sweeper so that I didn’t have to purchase bags, I certainly didn’t want to have to purchase filters. So this is another perk from my perspective.

The automatic rewind button that retrieves the power cord is a convenient feature. The onboard cleaning tools are sufficient, and the turbo pet hair cleaning tool is very nice, especially for stairs. It is quite powerful and allowed me to get a much more thorough cleaning of my stairs than I have ever been able to get with my old sweeper. This vacuum for tile floors is also much quieter than my old one. As the mother of an 8 month old, I certainly appreciate a softer noise level.

As for cons to the Hoover Elite Rewind, there are indeed a few. First of all, the machine is very heavy. I thought my old vacuum was quite hefty, but this one weighs even more. That makes taking it up and down the stairs somewhat difficult but as Mr Cleaning wrote on his website: “If you don’t have the strenght to pull your vacuum cleaner up the stairs, don’t buy one” Also, the stretchy hose, which is supposed to be helpful when doing stair cleaning and other reaching tasks, really isn’t all that helpful. Perhaps it will loosen with time, but for now it is too tight to really be helpful since when I pull on it, the entire vacuum cleaner tends to topple over. Finally, the filter inside the canister tends to trap dirt around it, so when you empty the canister, some dirt tends to stay trapped above the filter.

Compared to a very expensive vacuum cleaner, the Hoover Elite Rewind Bagless Upright might not be top dog. But within my price range, and for my needs, this was a great vacuum cleaner choice. This mom, for one, gives this machine an enthusiastic thumbs up.

How to Pick a Good Dehumidifier

Dehumidifiers have a myriad of benefits, for you and your house. For one, your house is less likely to have allergens in the air, which is great during allergy season. Allergens are abundant in humid settings. Your home will also have less dust, meaning you have to dust less, and it can help you breathe better. High humidity levels can also cause creaking floors, mold, musty smells, and peeling wallpaper, all of which can be fixed by getting the right dehumidifier.

When you are shopping for a dehumidifier, it is important to know what CFM you need it to have. CFM stands for cubic feet per minute, and it refers to the amount of air the best dehumidifier can move in a minute.

Know the Terms

It is also important to know the term ACH, which stands for air changes per hour. Air changes per hour is the number of times the air in a room filters through the dehumidifier in an hour. The more humid the air is, obviously, the higher the recommended ACH is because there is more moisture to get out of the air. For air with a 60% to 70% relative humidity, the recommended ACH is 3. For 70% to 80%, the recommended ACH is 4, for 80% to 90% the recommended ACH is 5, and for any relative humidity above 90% the recommended ACH is 6.

But, back to the CFM. To calculate the CFM you need, first determine how many cubic feet the room in question is. Then, multiple the number of cubic feet by the ACH, and divide that number by 60. The resulting number is the CFM that you need. When you start shopping, make sure you remember the CFM that you need, and look for a dehumidifier with a CFM that is the same, or more, than the CFM that you calculated.

You will also want to think about how you want to get rid of the moisture the dehumidifier takes out of the air. Most dehumidifiers have a direct drain feature, but to use it you have to have a floor level water drain. This is extremely helpful if your house is very humid and you need to continuously use it. If you do not need to use it continuously, for example, if you only use it at night, you can just empty it regularly when it gets full. But, if you need to use it continuously, and don’t have access to a floor level drain, look for a dehumidifier that has an internal pump that can pump water vertically to a sink.

Dehumidifiers can be a great asset to have in your house, but it is important you get the best one for your needs. Calculating the CFM and deciding how you want to dispose of the water collected, are two ways to make sure you know what to look for when shopping and will allow you to get the best dehumidifier for your house.
